Saving Her Broke Me Chapter 97: Yours

I chose you because you’re you. – Elias

Liana

I set the bouquet down on my desk like it might explode.

It looked too bright for the room. Too fragile for the world. Too good for me.

I stepped back, folded my arms, and stared at it like it might answer all the questions I didn’t know how to ask.

Behind me, I heard water running.

I turned toward the kitchen.

Elias was at the sink, sleeves pushed up, arm moving easily as he washed the dishes from earlier.

He was humming something low under his breath.

My heart twisted.

He looked so normal. So him.

And for a second, I let myself believe he could still be mine.

And still, I wondered—
Am I really enough?
Am I still what he wants?

He looked up and caught me staring. “Come here,” he said gently.

I walked over.

He dried his hands on a towel and glanced at me, eyes searching. “You okay?”

I nodded. “Yeah. Just… a little tired.”

He smiled soft, knowing.

Then leaned forward and kissed the top of my head like nothing in the world was broken.

Like maybe it wasn’t.

We didn’t say much after that.

Just moved around each other in the quiet the way we always did. like gravity pulled us close even when words couldn’t.

Later, in bed, the lights were off. The air was still.

She shifted beside me, rolled over, and slid closer.

And then I felt it. her fingers, soft and tentative, brushing against the arm I’d hurt.

I exhaled. Wrapped an arm around her waist.
Held her close.

“You testing the healing process?” I asked, voice low.

She didn’t laugh.

“I’m just…” she said, barely audible, “checking. Making sure you’re really okay.”

I looked down at her.

Eyes searching mine. Honest. Careful.

“Wanna test it properly?” I murmured.

She didn’t answer.

She flushed. She knew what that meant now.

Then she lifted her face and kissed my chin.

I kissed her back, on the mouth. Slow. Deep. Anchored.

My hand sliding up the curve of her back. Her body pressed against mine, and I could feel it. the way she leaned in without hesitation. No flinching. No fear.

When we broke for air, I held her face in my hands. Framed her like she was something precious.

Because she was.

“I chose you,” I said. “Because you’re you.”

I don’t know if she believed me.

But I’ll prove it.
Every damn day.
